Each question carries twenty (20) marks.

1. Structural Adjustment Programmes (SAP) brought more challenges than solutions in the African economy. Validate this statement in six points.

Currency devaluation led to the rise in the costs of imports especially on consumer goods, fuel, oil and food.

Trade liberalization resulted into the presence of many multinational corporations which are in the interests of the rich capitalist nations.

Privatization policy has led to domination of the private sectors by foreigners who exploit our economies.

Cutting of government spending on social services had led to a number of problems like: death of people as many cant afford medical cost and ignorance because poor majority can not afford to pay tax.

Unemployment

Multipartism has invited hatred and division based on political view. Also, during election it has led to death of people.

2. Demographic revolution was an obstacle to the existence of feudalism in Europe. In six points, justify this statement.

How demographic revolution affected feudalism?

Increase of market

This was due to the increase of the number of the people.

Development of towns

Many towns emerged, for example, London City in 17th Century which become a city with social infrastructures like roads, schools and medical centers.

Led to provision of industrial cheap labor

Labour were highly needed by the industries, this led to development of industries hence industrial revolution.

Destruction of feudalism

Increase in population could not match with feudalism, so the system declined and another system emerged.

Led to expansion of agriculture

Agriculture become more intensive to produce raw materials for the rural industry.

Development of science and technology

Demographic revolution created demand of urban manufacturing works, construction labourers etc. So the increase of people, led to the development of science and technology which were used to create industries.

3. In six points, show how social and economic circumstances accelerated the 1789 revolution in France.

Ineffective ruler

Louis XVI was undemocratic and he did not care his people. Though life became more difficult for his people including lack of food, he did not care.

Economic hardship, especially the agrarian crisis of 1788-89 generates popular discontent and disorders caused by food shortages.

The role of philosophers

In their writing they criticized the government ruling system. Example the Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire's ideas influenced the Revolution.

The emergence of an influential bourgeoisie

Bourgeoisie was formally part of the Third Estate (commoners) but had evolved into a caste with its own agenda and aspired to political equality with the clergy (First Estate) and the aristocracy (Second Estate).

Britain democratic government

Britain government influenced French people to demand similar changes. The French also desired to live a good life as British live, democratic life.

The influence of American war of independence

The war brought the inspiration of Liberty, Freedom and Equality of the people.The French fought in America's war of independence. They went there to help America get its independence from the British. Being there, they fought for equality and justice for all people. When they returned home, they decided to fight for equality, liberty and freedom in their own country.

4. Analyse six circumstances that propelled the formation of “Armed Camps” in Europe in the 19th century.

5. Why did the Sino-America relations after 1949 deteriorate? Explain by giving six points.

6. Analyse three factors which accelerated the 1920s economic boom in USA and in three points show how the economic boom accelerated the economic depression.

7. Why was it necessary for the USSR to install missiles in Cuba? Explain by giving six points.
