1. This paper consists of sections A, B, and C with a total of eleven (11) questions.
2. Answer all questions in sections A and B and two (2) questions from section C.
3. Section A carries sixteen (16) marks, section B fifty-four (54) marks, and section C carries thirty (30) marks.
4. Communication devices and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination room.
5. All drawings should be in pencil.

3. Briefly, answer the following questions:
A. How does the study of history promote patriotism?
Study of history promote patriotism as when someone who study history know the real histroy of his/her society, this increase love for the country.
B. Briefly, explain the rationale for using oral traditions as a method of getting historical information.
Oral traditions is cheap and available probably everywhere. Also it is a source which sometime can give first hand historical information.
C. Two form four students in a neighboring country discovered the fossil whose age is estimated to be 6,000 years ago;
i. Which instrument would you advice them to use to determine the fossil’s age?
Carbon 14 can be used to determine the fossil’s age.
ii. Why did you recommend such an instrument? Give a reason.
Carbon 14 is recommended to be used to determine the fossill’s age because it is accurate and can give exactly fossil age. Also, carbon 14 has been used by famous archaeologists one among them is Dr Leakey.
4. Arrange the following events in a chronological order by writing number 1 to 6 beside the item number.

5. Briefly, answer the following questions:
i. Otto Von Bismarck succeeded to resolve a conflict that could have led to a great war among the Europeans powers which were scrambling for colonies during the 19th century. Suggest one strategy that he used.
One strategy used by Otto von Bismarck to resolve a conflict that could have led to a great war among European powers was calling for the Berlin Conference. Through this, European countries peacefully divided the African continent.
ii. The Versailles Treaty was signed by the Central powers in 1919. give a reason for its creation.
Versailles Treaty was created so as to settle for peace after fighting in the first World war. So the treaty was made to make sure that there is peace.
iii. The Great Economic Depression caused the failure of the League of Nations. Justify this statement by giving one point.
Great Economic Depression caused the failure of the League of Nations because depression made people especially in Germany choose to be ruled by dictators so as to provide economic solutions. Adolf Hitler is an example of the dictators made into power by the people due to the economic depression.
iv. Adolf Hitler played a key role to the rise of the Second World War. Support this statement by giving three points.
Adolf Hitler played a key role to the rise of the Second World War due to the following points:
He refused the Versailles Peace Treaty conditionalities. Hitler opposed those conditionalities and refused to pay for war reparation.
Hitler, attacked Poland which caused other countries to react hence the second world war.
Hitler allied with other dictators and they had an agenda to rule the World by making Berlin its capital. We can say that, Hitler and his friend Benito Mussolin were planning to attack other countries to expand their territories.
Finally, it is possible that, without Adolf Hitler, the Second World War could not occur.
